If you are looking for ways to raise awareness of your business or campaign then telling your story, rather than just selling products or services, is key.
You should be treating your brand as if it were a person, with a tone of voice, a sense of humour, and a back story to tell.
Particularly for charities, it’s no longer enough to tell potential supporters what you do, or even why the organisation was founded in the first place
Take a look at what the big charities such as Oxfam, Save the Children or Barnardo’s and the adverts they run on TV, particularly close to Christmas, and what they’re remembered for is that heart-wrenching stories of hardship and poverty that make the viewer stop and think about those less well-off than themselves.
Now, while most small charities don’t have multi-million-pound advertising budgets, they do have equally valuable stories to tell, and, importantly, a website with the ability to easily adding a blog page.
Your blog, and in turn, your social media, is your personal platform to shout about the impact of your work on those you help and to appeal for support to keep doing it.
This goes for small businesses too. Every business, from delis to digger rental, accountants to architects, have stories to tell about how they have impacted on their customers and clients, and, hopefully, they have a website.
Have you helped a client design the home of their dreams? Did you save a customer a fortune in tax? Are your deli ingredients helping home workers create amazing lunches or is your rental equipment making life easier for construction projects and saving time and money in the process? Then tell people, as chances are, others will want some of that too!
However, as a small charity or SME, chances are you aren’t blessed with an in-house marketing team, and you might not have time to spend planning, writing, and publishing your blog.
Help is out there though, in the form of copywriters like myself, I can help you by preparing a series of blogs, one or two per month, coming up with ideas for topics, writing the copy, publishing them on your site, and even tracking the analytics to see how many people are reading it.
If you would like help telling your stories, I’d love to chat with you and see how I can help.

I attended a course on business storytelling run by Bob Keiller and Thor Holt which was a brilliant experience and completely changed my approach to pitching for business...and I love telling a story so it was right up my street! 😁
