As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm planning networking meetings based around my book group on Facebook (everyone is welcome to join the group at facebook.com/groups/AberdeenBusinessBooks).

Plan the first networking meeting around Easter!

I have two questions...

1) For the GDPR experts... for most networking events a delegate list is sent before or after the event. Is there any issues around GDPR regarding sending such a list to other people attending the networking event? For example, is permission needed from each person attending to include their name and business in the delegate list?

And a bonus question - if you where attending a networking meeting, would you prefer the list before or after the event?

2) I'm looking for recommendations for meeting rooms for hire in Aberdeen. Ideally a boardroom style room for around 10 to 15 people.

  • Hi Simon,  I have a conference room at Aberdeen Business Centre which holds 16 people and I have just posted on here offering ABN members 50% of room bookings.   If you would like to pop round for a coffee and have a look at the room you are more than welcome.

    • Hi Marie, yes that would be good thank you, and I will have a look at your other post. Could you send me an e-mail at simon@libraryplayer.co.uk and we'll arrange something.

  • Aberdeen Business Centre - Marie Brown is the contact person

    • Thanks for sharing Iain and replied to Marie's reply! :-)

  • Hi Simon,  I heard someone say there was a room in John Lewis that can be booked - I don't know any more details but am sure someone will! Or there's Inspire on the Beach Boulevard which is also a good venue.

I' no GDPR expert but I'd rather have the list of attendees before the event.

    • Thanks Lynne,

I've previously looked at the John Lewis room for something else - and believe that is more for charities.

      E-mailed Inspire at the beach.

List of attendees before the event seems to be the popular answer. As everyone will be booking beforehand (rather then "paying at the door") it would be fairly easy to arrange.

  • hey Simon, hope you're well, I'm not a GDPR expert by any stretch but I think, if you're doing your bookings via eventbrite that it would be covered on there, they must be compliant, I used picatic for my events which was then bought by EB, for anything I do in the future I'll be checking it's in the terms or an option for them to opt out of a list.

    bonus question - before.

2 - The Aberdeen Altens are great and host various different types and sizes of meeting and events, Julia Clift Leitch is my contact there and you can make contact via the button on their profile here https://grampianbusinessfinder.co.uk/the-aberdeen-altens-hotel

Give me a shout if I can be of any further assistance, all best :)

    • Thank you Karen, I've just contacted the Aberdeen Altens Hotel.

Plan to use Eventbrite so will see if there is an option for people to opt out of being included in a delegate list.

And thank you to everyone on Grampian Business Finders for all the replies to my post - currently sorting through them! :-)

      • Simon - sorry missed this before, great - they're awesome, let me know how you get on. Not sure if it's an opt out but I think they'll have it covered somehow. Delighted to hear GBF has been its useful self, lots of very helpful people there as you know - thank you for choosing GBFinder :)
