Local Luxury

We're on the hunt for local luxury brands.

They could be from any sector: tourism, retail, hospitality, food and drink, etc. but what should unite them is that they are aspirational, high-quality and somewhat exclusive products/services/destinations.

This is purely research at the moment and we're trying to get a feel for what people would call out as luxury, locally.

Thank you!

  • Oooooo... Love this!

The first one that springs to my mind has to Finnies. They are an absolute stalwart of the local jewellery trade. Their timeless approach to business has served them exceedingly well.

Although, I have always questioned their location choice. George Street! 60 years ago this probably made perfect sense. But now?? Not so much.

However, I like to look at this as a testament to their brand strength. Even from negative surroundings, they have succeeded in delivering the essence of true luxury!

    Finnies... I doff my hat!
    • Great points here, James. Can a brand last longer than the habitat in which it was founded? Case in point! Big question...could there be investment in this area between John Lewis and Sandman that would bring it back to it's former glory?
  • Luxury and adventure are my speciality Adam :) I’d love to be involved in the findings of this research as this is my ideal market place.
For me places I would think of being luxury and as you’ll know it’s a subjective thing - one man’s luxury is another man’s poor, places like Eat on the Green, Fife Arms in Braemar, Cruise Clothing, Lava jewellery in Cults, Silver Darling restaurant, Trump hotel, Glencraft luxury mattresses.
In general there are also art galleries/shops, shops such as Country ways, furniture retailers such as Archibald’s and Dargie design - I might be a bit behind on these though. I’m sure there are also smaller more bespoke businesses which hopefully others know about too
    • Eat on the Green! Excellent shout! Would we say Fennel too??
      • Ooo love a good Fennel...
    • Absolutely, Carmen! You are already front of mind for this ;-) happy to share!

Thank you for sharing those, I totally agree it's subjective but it's great to see common themes in what people think really stand out! Love that you include Glencraft in the above as they are certainly talking the right talk from our point-of-view as to how to position a luxury offering.
      Thanks so much again!
  • Bespoke, top of the range cake. Yes, a producer can provide for the masses, but can also have a more expensive, luxury and signature offering for the more discerning palette etc
    • Love this, Allison :-) and couldn't agree more. I think price is relative but quality certainly speaks for itself ;-) what would you say is the biggest challenge in "positioning" a luxury offering? E.g. visuals, communications, value-added services?
