What do you use Alexa for...?

Do you have 'an Alexa' (or an Amazon Echo as I think they are properly known!)? I have an Echo Spot and I love having a screen, it tells the time, sets alrms, gives me the weather and of course plays music, reads books and tells me about my Amazon deliveries! So when my mother-in-law asked for 'an Alexa' for her birthday so we got her an Echo Show but now it's all set up she has doesn't really know what to do with it!

So just out of interest, what do you do with yours?

  • Hey Lynn,  our house is one big ghetto blaster.  We have several scattered through the house and mainly use them for music, occasional announcement to tell my daughter supper is ready and more recent spending time playing "guess the movie intro" game.    There are so many uses and people will get what they want.  But simply asking for Spotify, Tunein radio and weathet does it for me.

    • Sounds exactly like our house! Must try that game too, though it could get quite competitive :)

  • I think switching off the power is really funny - my parents do it too because 'Alexa is listening' :)

  • My grandad is the same, we got one set-up for him thinking it would be useful as his eyesight isn't that great anymore and he could just ask Alexa for the information or make calls but he doesn't really bother with it.  He actually switches the power off at the wall as he finds it slightly annoying when it lights and talks just because he said something it thought was Alexa.

I guess at his age you will just persevere with how you are used to doing things even if its a bit of a struggle!

  • I thought I would use my Echo for so much (pre-purchase). - Actually, I just use it for music (Radio stations and Spotify). One day I would like it to control all the lights in my house, boil the kettle and run me a bath... One day!

    • I have a friend who uses hers to control her lights, switch on her kettle etc. - it's all quite impressive! At the moment alarms and music are my two main uses as well though :)
