Thank you ‘Vorders’ aka Carol Vorderman for summing up the reason behind my motivation for change.

“REASON, cause, motive are terms for a circumstance (or circumstances)
which brings about or explains certain results”.

After my job became redundant during the downturn within the Oil and Gas industry, I took some time away from the business to review, reflect and just be a Mom.

During this time of change i’ve lost a family member and continue to support another through the harrowing journey of Cancer. “You’re a long time dead and this isn’t a dress rehearsal” couldn’t be more true.

“A REASON is an explanation of a situation or circumstance
which made certain results seem possible”.

This precious time has allowed me to focus on the end game and not the day to day. Its been a life learning journey for-sure. Mel Robbins calls this the ‘space in-between - your old life ending and your new one starting’ and I agree with her sentiment.

It is a weird space to be, we’ve all been there, maybe your in that space now. Maybe like me, you’re working hard to launch a new and exciting chapter in your career.

In this ‘in-between time’ i’ve done three key things…

  • Firstly, I signed on and got support from Job Seekers through the New Enterprise Allowance scheme to pursue and explore the possibility of starting my own business. So many people have said to do it in the past and the only blocker that was left was me! I was further supported by People Plus who provided business mentor Colleen Kainof L&C Consultancy to support me through the business planning stage.

  • Secondly, I was inspired by some amazing people who give up their free time to run a charity and feeling the need to provide support the best way i know how, I now too volunteer my time for two charities ‘For the Love of Garioch’ and St Kanes Pre-School supporting them with their fund raising and social communications.

  • Thirdly, I wanted to develop my skills further and become qualified. I’m proud to say I’ve just submitted my final exam on a Mini MBA in Marketing provided by Marketing Week (wish me luck!) and started a Post Graduate in Digital Marketing Leadership through Aberdeen University, supported and part funded by Skills Development Scotland Transition Training Fund

‘The space in-between...
your old life ending and your new one starting’

The ‘space in-between’ has been challenging and life changing, i’ve found my passion and focus again. On reflection its been pretty awesome and at the same time uncomfortable, most importantly it has allowed me and my husband to do the thing we wanted to do a decade ago… join forces and start our own self-funded business.

As of now we are Reason Agency a Social Centred Marketing Firm.

Part of our strategy for growth is to use what is already 'out-there' digitally to build connections, form relationships and assist others with solutions.

We’ve selected Medium as a way to share specialist knowledge, Dribble for building a project portfolio, Instagram to share current work and client stories, Pinterest for inspiration, twitter to share our posts, Facebook as a cross over, LinkedIn for connecting business to business and building our local network through abn

Thank you to all the people in my life that have supported me during the ‘in-between’. You are all amazing!
And, to those of you that have a dream, 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… go do it, as ‘you’re a long time dead and this isn’t a dress rehearsal’.
