Firstly, a belated Happy New Year! I’ve neglected my ABN duties recently, but I’ve made a promise to myself to stop by and say hello more often (please feel free to hold me accountable...).

Is it just me, or does it feel like the corona-coaster has been on an incline since Christmas?

Lockdown 3.0 has hit me hard, and I’m on the lookout for any tips and tricks to boost motivation. I’m in a total slump, and there's nothing overly inspiring about staring at the same four walls all day, every day. What has helped you to stay motivated during these odd times?

  • Good luck Hannah. The normal world IS on its way back! My tuppence worth is make contact with people who fill your bucket! You'll know the type - friends and contacts who always give you a lift after you've spoken with them. They'll be happy to hear from you and you'll feel better after speaking with them!

    • Thank you, Andrew! With January almost (finally) over, I'm already feeling back to my cheery self. Thank you for your advice, I have a call planned this afternoon that I'm sure will leave me with a spring in my step.

      • Well done!

  • I find having routine helps, even if it is achieving a few small things every day.

My sister takes the approach of trying to achieve certain things each month.  For example reading a new book, trying 2 new recipes, going for 2 walks that are different to her normal walks.

I’m also dreaming of March longer brighter days!

    • Thank you, Kate :-).

I'm starting a short course at University this week, and I'm looking forward to having a clear goal in sight over the next ten-weeks.

Me too, only 62 days to go - we've got this!

  • Hi Hannah, you aren't alone.. this lockdown seems so much harder... probably simply because this has gone on longer than any of us could ever have imagined a year ago, and we now wonder when or even if life will return to any kind of normality.   On top of that we have the feeling of not being in control, with a government deciding what is best for us.. and without getting into politics of whether they are right or wrong it is certainly a very uneasy feeling for most of us. I do, however, try to be an optimist  & 3 things that have helped me over the last year..

    1. getting outside at least once a day & reminding myself there is life out there! (and on days like today enjoy that sunshine. It hasn't been locked down, it's still there - bonus!)

    2. taking up yoga - had never done it, but found really good series on Amazon prime (wish I'd managed to stick to the diet too but that is another story)

    3. using online forums - hence I'm on here this week :-)

Hope you have a good weekend :-)

    • Hello Alice!

Thank you so much for your advice. I was in a great routine with daily walks in lockdown 1.0/2.0, but after plenty of Christmas cheese and gin, it seems to have a fallen by the wayside. I went for a wander this afternoon in the winter sunshine and wow, what a difference it has made.

Liam Forrest has also recommended yoga; I'll have to look into this further.

      Thanks again :-).

      • Oh don't worry I'm full of good advice but I'm the same -- I haven't got back into any kind of healthy lifestyle since Christmas! Current goal is it all starts tomorrow (after wine today!) !! Glad you enjoyed your walk :-)

        • I'm with you there - I'm pretty sure my catchphrase is 'I'll start on Monday, promise!'.

  • Would reccommend going out to get some fresh air or even maybe easy exercises like yoga/ stretching. Setting your self small goal for during your day that you can achieve even if you are busy you can still achieve them. Set dates for virtual zoom calls with people so you have something to look forward to. Hopefuly something helps.
