Music versus COVID-19

Hi ABNers! As a huge lifelong music fan, it is an honour to work for the charity Alzheimer Scotland. Our Aberdeen Dementia Resource Centre deliver regular activities like Musical Memories, Name the Tune & Pop Up Parties. Music is proven to improve the well-being of people living with dementia, helping reduce common issues such as anxiety and isolation. I thought I'd share an article I recently wrote on LinkedIn about how music is such a huge part of so many of our lives, especially while we face up to adversity during these times. I hope it's something you can relate to and you enjoy reading it!https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/world-hope-music-versus-covid-19-michael-parkesWhat does music mean to you? I'd love to hear any memories or stories of how music impacts your life :)I'm just finishing up today, as I have been place on furlough until 31st May (as it stands). Please feel free to add me on LinkedIn or follow Alzheimer Scotland'' Aberdeen & Shire Facebook page at: https://en-gb.facebook.com/pages/category/Nonprofit-Organization/Alzheimer-Scotland-Aberdeen-and-Aberdeenshire-543713749089663Stay safe and see you soon!

  • Great article Michael and I totally agree that music can have a powerful effect on us. I know when I hear certain songs from the 80s, I'm instantly transported back to my youth and singing into a hairbrush whilst dancing around my bedroom!!

During the lockdown we have had the radio playing quite a lot and it does lift your mood....although I'm not dancing around the living room singing into my hairbrush!!

Stay safe and I look forward to catching up with you when lockdown is lifted.

  • Excellent article Michael (and have made sure I'm following in all places now!). Music will last much, much longer than this virus!
